It lets one define regions of the globe over which it superimposes spatial and time series data concerning temperature, precipitation, sunlight, and, pictured above, wind speed.<\/p>\n<p>See a <a href=\"http:\/\/research.microsoft.com\/apps\/video\/default.aspx?id=160725\">demo of FetchClimate in this video<\/a>, starting at 22:45.<\/p>\n<p>The data (graphed above, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.decisionsciencenews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/NatWndc.png\">larger image here<\/a>) mesh with our experience living in Chicago that the &#8220;windy city&#8221; is not really <em>that<\/em> windy. Yes, Chicago is in a part of the country that is windier than average, but Kansas makes it look calm. Furthermore, New York City and Long Island are windier than Chicago, but nobody goes &#8220;OMG! How can you stand that wind?&#8221; when you say that you live there.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Average Wind Speed (meters \/ second)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Chicago 4.92<\/li>\n<li>New York, NY 5.01<\/li>\n<li>Milwaukee, WI 5.03<\/li>\n<li>Casper, WY 5.5<\/li>\n<li>Rochester, MN 5.5<\/li>\n<li>Amarillo, TX 6.12<\/li>\n<li>Dodge City, KS 6.25<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And a little wind is a good thing.
