AOT-E follow-up #2 (W19) Lucid Start of Block: Consent Consent PARTICIPANT CONSENT FORM   What follows is a brief overview of the research we are completing with your assistance. The total time for participation is approximately 10-15 minutes. PROJECT TITLE:  Beliefs Survey   PRIMARY RESEARCHERS:   Gordon Pennycook, Faculty of Business Administration, University of Regina gordon.pennycook@uregina.ca; 306-585-4724 David Rand, Management Science, Sloan School MIT, rand.dave@gmail.com; 607-592-0218 Michael Nicholas Stagnaro, Department of Psychology, Yale University, mnstagnaro@gmail.com   INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE: You are invited to participate in this study via Lucid. To be eligible to participate, you must be 18 years of age or older.   PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: We are interested in your opinions about various religious, political and moral beliefs.  Specifically, we are interested in how beliefs are affected by both environment, psychology, your personal history, and other various demographics. We are also interested in how you think about, and interact with individuals who have different beliefs from your own or who come from different cultures than your own. We are also interested in how changes to the above factors (thinking, environment, demographics) can change belief, both in real time as well as over the course of someone’s life.   PROCEDURES: Should you agree to participate, you will be invited to answer questions about belief and ideology, along with decision-making tasks and various demographics questions. You may also be given some content to highlight aspects of one kind of environment over another, or participate in a division of money task (that is, you may be asked to decide to allocate money to various potential options). The expected time to complete the study is 10-15 minutes. After completing the study, you will be provided with a compensation as a thank-you for your time.   POTENTIAL RISKS: There are no anticipated risks associated with participation in this study.  POTENTIAL BENEFITS: Although there are no direct benefits associated with participation, participants will receive compensation for completing the study. Participants may also benefit indirectly from knowing that they have advanced our understanding of psychological decision-making processes.   CONFIDENTIALITY: Your Lucid ID and IP address will be recorded. Otherwise, participation will be anonymous.   STORAGE OF DATA: Original electronic data will be stored in password- protected files in the locked offices of the researchers. Only the primary researchers will have access to the original electronic data. Lucid ID and IP addresses will then be removed from the data file and (upon submission of manuscripts associated with this research) it will be posted online for the sake of the broader scientific community. The data collected will be analyzed in aggregate (that is, we will be looking at averages) and will be used to inform future research studies, submitted for publication in an academic journal and may be presented at conferences.   RIGHT TO WITHDRAW:  Participation is entirely voluntary. If you decide to participate you are free to discontinue participation at any time without question or penalty. Information collected from you cannot be discarded; however, because your responses are anonymous, they will be not tied to you in any way. Given the large and anonymous nature of data collection, participants cannot withdraw after they have submitted their responses.   QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS: If you have any questions, please feel free to ask a member of the research team. Any specific questions regarding the study can be answered by contacting the researchers using the contact information at the top of this form or via the Lucid  interface. The current research project was approved by the University of Regina Research Ethics Board (File 2019-001) on March 7th, 2019. The final results will be made available online following completion of data collection and analysis. Participants can access this information on Dr. Pennycook’s personal website: https://gordonpennycook.net/   INVESTIGATORS: Gordon Pennycook, Ph.D.; David Rand, Ph.D.; Michael Nicholas Stagnaro   UNDERSTANDING: The Research Ethics Board at the University of Regina has approved this project. If a participant has any questions or concerns about their rights or treatment as a research participant, they may contact the Chair of the Ethics Board at 1-306-585-4775 (out of town participants may call collect) or by e-mail: research.ethics@uregina.ca.  Participants also understand that in the event they require assistance related in any way to their participation in this investigation, they can contact any member of the research team and thereafter be provided, or guided to a provider of, the assistance they require. With full knowledge of all foregoing, I agree, of my own free will, to participate in this study.
